Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why did we open My Sister’s Closet?
We asked ourselves, “why were resale stores always dark, dirty and dingy?” Why can’t they look like new boutiques?
Q. So then what happened?
We dedicated ourselves to turning the “three d’s” – dark, dirty and dingy – into the “three c’s” – cute, clean and current. In 1991, a store was born at Town & Country shopping center in Phoenix. It was so small we considered naming it My Baby Sister’s Closet.
Q. Did it take a while to catch on?
Nope. It turned out lots of women were looking for the “three c’s” but not at retail prices. By ’92 we had rented out a second space.
Q. Can I have another cookie?
Maybe later. Let me finish the story. After opening a second boutique, our family continued to grow and extended its reach into Scottsdale and Chandler. Our suspicion grew that what made for a great ladies resale shopping experience would translate to men and the home. We then opened My Sister’s Attic in 1999 and men’s apparel in 2001 with Well Suited. Finally, we branched outside of Arizona with the opening of My Sister's Closet in San Diego, California in 2011.
Q. Do men really consign?
You better believe it. Two qualities that both genders share are vanity and frugality.
Q. What do I do if I want to consign a big piece of furniture?
We're happy to pick up furniture for a flat fee. Email us at [email protected] with your zip code or call 480-607-4303 for more info.
Q. How about clothes?
Live somewhere else? No problemo. We accept clothes from all over the country. Email us or call 480-443-4575 and we’ll arrange it.
Q. Can I consign my husband?
Sorry, we’ve tried this. We found there was absolutely no market for “used” husbands and they took up valuable shelf space. We recommend you donate yours to a non-profit. Don’t forget to get a receipt. And change your cell number.
Q. How many new items are consigned every day at our stores?
More than 3,000 home and apparel items join our inventory every day. We like to joke that if you can’t find what you’re looking for in one of our stores, come back tomorrow. Heck, come back in a couple hours. What other high-end store can make that claim?
Q. So what’s new and exciting?
What's that sound you hear? Waves crashing? Seagulls squawking? Listen closer. It's hangers clinking against each other. What's your favorite fashion statement? Gucci, Chanel, or Ralph Lauren? The only thing that's better than frolicking on the beach in Encinitas, California is consigning and buying all your favorite brands at our three new stores just up the road from the surf. My Sister's Closet, My Sister's Attic and Well Suited are the newest family members in the sister brand.
When's the last time you wanted one night stand? Ok, now tell us the truth. Come on over to our brand spanking new store in Encinitas. There's no telling who or what you might find there. My Sister's Attic has opened at 133 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas and is selling the best of pre-loved furniture and home stuff in California.
Q. What’s next?
We have no idea but it’s always something. Stay tuned.
Q. How do I check my account?
The easiest way to see what has sold on your account is to simply stop into any one of our locations. Any salesperson can tell you what we owe you in store credit or cash and unlike other consignment stores, you can collect on the spot! (Please bring a photo ID). They can also give you a printout if you are interested in the details of your account. If you simply want the balance on your account and no detailed information, leave a message at 602-468-9900. Or, use the "Check Your Account Balance" button on the top right of this page.
Q. What happens if my items don’t sell?
Items that don't get snatched up are donated to My Sisters' Charities or our favorite non-profits that benefit homeless pets and women's groups. We will be happy to give you a receipt for the tax man. You can reclaim your better items that we have priced over $50. We do charge $5 per item for this service. We are proud to have donated over $500,000 to the AZ Humane Society in 2018.
